Description
Three Page Sonata For Four is the first work by Tharp to integrate music as a foundational element of the choreography. Tharp used Charles Ives’ musical score as a map to determine each dancer’s pathways and the work’s structural patterns. A recording of the music plays in accompaniment.
Originally intended to premiere in an outdoor amphitheater on the Lower East Side, the performance was rained out and Three Page Sonata For Four premiered later that year during the SUNY Potsdam Summer Artist Series.
