Description

One month before Hair (1979) opened in movie theaters, Tharp presented three dance excerpts at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The Pershing Rifles Company H-8 of the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn joined the dancers live for this special event. The three pieces were performed in the abstract space of the proscenium stage, out of the cinematic and narrative context of the film production.

From the orginal program:  “Choreographed by Twyla Tharp for the film version of Hair, these dances are set to three songs from the original score by James Rado, Gerome Ragni, and Galt MacDermot. Hair is a Lester Persky and Michael Butler production; a Miloš Forman film released by United Artists.”
