Description
Taking its name from the famous highway, “66” is an intentionally kitschy portrait of America and its automobile culture. The choreography is lighthearted and athletic. Caricatures of roadside personalities – a trio of mechanics, young lovers from a small town – cavort with a foam Pirelli tire.
In 1996, after nearly ten years of freelance choreography, Tharp put together a company of dancers. “66” was one of the first three works she created for them, performed alongside Sweet Fields (1996) and Heroes (1996).
